SEIZING THE THRONE

Did you know that 1 in 4 people in the United States has a disability? And yet, they are the population that received the least amount of representation. And in luxury fashion, basically no representation.

While there are many different types of disabilities, for Hunger Magazine, we chose to highlight a community of talented models who all use wheelchairs as their primary means of mobility. Why this community in particular? Because if they are lucky enough to get any type of representation in mainstream media, they are most often tokenized, meaning there is only one of them representing the whole community of wheelchair users.

As part of this incredible project, each talent was interviewed to share their story and unique points of view on representation. I highly encourage you to read the article, written by another talented wheelchair user and disabilities advocate Madison Lawson. You can read the whole article here.

For this story, I did creative direction alongside Stephanie Francis. I also did all of the casting, production, and post production, in addition to the photography of course. This story holds a very special place in my heart.
